Hurricane Helene was an unusual event resulting in widespread power outages for an extended period of time, which made it impossible for Greenville County Schools, and most districts in our area, to conduct eLearning during the eight days schools were closed.

We are closely monitoring the weather predictions for Friday. A decision about how school will be handled on Friday will be made closer to the potential weather event when more accurate forecasts and information are available. Delaying this decision allows the district to determine a plan for school on Friday that maximizes student learning while also minimizing the burden on parents who need supervision for their children. We will make every effort to make a decision regarding school on Friday prior to dismissal on Thursday.
Greenville County Schools has released the 2026-27 student calendar. Students will start the school year on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. The last day of school will be Thursday, May 27, 2027.
Due to a legislative action by the South Carolina General Assembly, the South Carolina State Board of Education passed a new cell phone policy for school districts across the state, which goes into effect after Winter Break, starting January 7, 2025. School districts must adopt this policy pertaining to personal electronic devices. At the December meeting, the Greenville County Schools Board of Trustees approved an updated policy to comply with the state requirement. The revisions can be found in Policy JCDA and Administrative Rule JCDA as seen below.

All Greenville County students have the opportunity to register in the full-time Virtual Program. The initial application for the 2025-2026 GCS Virtual Program opens at 8:00 a.m. December 9, 2024, and will continue through 11:59 p.m. on February 3, 2025. To apply, students must be enrolled in Greenville County Schools and parents must have a Backpack account. Please note, the Virtual Program will not be offered for Specialized/Magnet Programs such as Charles Townes Center, Language Immersion and preschool programs or the most intensive special education services, which is typically referred to as self-contained programming.
Prisma Health, in partnership with Greenville Technical College and Greenville County Schools, has created an apprenticeship model for high school students. There will be an informational session on January 23, 2025 at 6 p.m. via Zoom.
The South Carolina Board of Education requires participation in the End-of-Course Examination Program (EOCEP) for students enrolled in gateway courses which are awarded credit in English 2, Algebra 1, Biology 1, and the United States History and the Constitution (USHC). The EOCEP examination scores count 20 percent in the calculation of the student’s final grade.
Over the past three years, the ARMES (Arts Reaching Middle and Elementary Schools) program has been on an incredible growth journey, doubling in size to reach more students in our community. This expansion has brought two new program sites to Hillcrest and Greer Middle Schools, allowing Greenville County Schools to offer greater access to high-quality, rigorous gifted and talented arts education.
Greenville County Schools will reopen Wednesday, October 9 and transportation will run modified bus routes. Families will be contacted directly if a temporary bus stop is necessary; please answer and listen to voicemails to receive this information. Tuesday, October 8, will be a teacher/all staff workday. There will be no in-person school or eLearning for students; school and district offices will be open to the public. There are no field trips for the rest of this week. Decisions regarding athletics will be made on an individual basis and announced through the schools.
Greenville County Schools plans to change student assignment boundaries to accommodate the new Reedy Laurel Elementary School.
All traditional GCS high schools are scheduled to graduate at Bon Secours Wellness Arena.
Forty deserving high school seniors were recognized at the 27th annual Scholarship Golf Tournament Luncheon in Greenville. Each senior received a $1,500 scholarship from the Greenville County Schools Foundation, which hosted its annual golf tournament in the Fall of 2023.

Monday, April 8, will be an eLearning day for Greenville County Schools students due to the solar eclipse.
The Next Engineers: Greenville Engineering Camp, sponsored by the GE Foundation and provided by Clemson University, is open to any current 8th or 9th grader who lives in South Carolina. Over 1 week, campers will be immersed in the world of engineering, where they will develop their creativity and problem-solving skills, complete hands-on, team-based design challenges, have an opportunity to meet real-world engineers, and get a sense of college life. Camp is free of charge to all participants. Lunch will be provided. Transportation will be provided to students in Anderson, Greenville, Oconee, Pickens, or Spartanburg counties. Students outside these counties must provide their own daily transportation to and from Clemson University.
GCS high school students who are interested in enrolling in a career center program for the 2024-25 school year may apply online through March 14 using their GCS Backpack account. This is a great opportunity to explore careers and earn certifications in fields such as culinary arts, machine tool, mechatronics, aircraft maintenance, welding, building construction, barbering, automotive technology, and firefighting.
Greenville County Schools is a “choice” district, offering quality schools at all levels across the school system. Approximately 15% of the school system’s 78,000 students attend school on choice.
Arts Reaching Middle and Elementary Schools is a tuition-free, rigorous, artistically gifted and talented program designed to meet the needs of identified 3rd through 8th grade Greenville County students.
Greenville County Schools has released the 2025-26 student calendar. Students will start the school year on Monday, August 11, 2025. The last day of school will be Friday, May 22, 2026. In accordance with state law, the calendar includes 180 scheduled instructional days and ten professional development/teacher workdays.
