“Citizen Diplomacy” will open March 11 at Furman University’s James B Duke Library.
The exhibit will run through March 29 and feature 35 pieces from the Rob Rowen/Clyde Hensley Collection, as well as new works from artists in East Cuba.
“Citizen Diplomacy” will include works by artists such as Eddy Ochoa Guzman, Carlos Rene Aguilera Tamayo, Roel Caboverde, Jeho, Oscar Lasseria, Alfredo Rodriguez, Jose Julian Aguilera, Mildo, Eliades and Pouyo.
“Cuban art is fresh and vibrant,” said Nuance Gallery owner Rob Rowen, who brought the collection to the Upstate. “I love supporting the painters of East Cuba and I am always excited to see where they are going with their works.”
In connection with the exhibition, Furman will host guest speaker Soldad Pagliuca of the The Friendship Association at the Burgiss Theater in the university’s Trone Student Center at 5 p.m. March 11. Following Pagliuca’s event, attendees are invited to attend the exhibit’s opening reception at the James B Duke Library.
