The South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs is warning residents about a text message scam.

Officials said a text is going around informing residents that they have overdue toll charges.

The Southern Connector Toll Road posted a statement on their website that states they will never contact users via SMS/text messaging.

“We only contact toll violators via United States Postal Service. If you receive a TXT/SMS mesage stating you have an outstanding debt with the Southern Connector, please ignore and disregard.”
