The “Sounds of Summer” concert series is back at Furman University and features lakeside concerts from now until August 1.
What time is it? Summertime. The kickoff of “Sounds of Summer,” Furman’s free lakeside concert series, is this Thursday, May 30. Bring a chair or a picnic blanket, and get ready for a variety of genres all summer long.
All shows take place Thursdays at 7:30 p.m rain or shine (moving into McAlister Auditorium in the event of inclement weather):
Lakeside Concert Band | May 30 | This ensemble is directed by Sue Samuels and will perform throughout the summer.
Carolina Youth Symphony | June 6 | This orchestra of talented Upstate kids will take the stage.
Poinsett Winds | June 13 | Furman alumni and faculty make up this ensemble.
The Greenville Jazz Collective | June 20 | The Big Band hits the stage for a night of jazz tunes.
Greenville Chorale with the Lakeside Concert Band | June 27 | Enjoy a professional fireworks display as you listen to the 18th annual patriotic lakeside band concert.
Lakeside Concert Band with PaintJam | July 4 | Celebrate the Fourth of July with a speed-painting concert.
Spartanburg Jazz Ensemble | July 11 | Another Upstate Big Band brings its jazz stylings to Furman.
Matt Olson Jazz Quartet | July 18 | Director of Jazz Studies and Professor of Saxophone at Furman takes the stage with his quartet.
The Foothills Brass Band with the Lakeside Concert Band | July 25 | Many of these musicians are music educators, from the elementary to the college level.
Lakeside Concert Band | Aug. 1 | Bid farewell to this summer series the same way we started, with a concert by the Lakeside Concert Band.
